Art Tapout 2nd Edition - Agitprop Gallery
by Kevin Freitas / Video by Michele Guieu
Time flies when you're having fun they say, so I must be having a lot because its been six months since the last Art Tapout came to town - it seems like yesterday. I want to thank David White, owner/director of Agitprop Gallery in North Park, for having initiated the second round of Art Tapouts and the artists who graciously participated. I want to thank everyone who came as well, there were several new faces attending and a renewed interest in bringing a dialogue about art and artists to what they create. The idea is simple: one critic and several artists go head to head in a metaphorical cage fight and discussion about art "LIVE" which is then opened up eventually for questions, comments and insights from the public. I'm consistently surprised by the interest and passionate voices the public brings to these events, proving once again that art is important to everyone's life.
Below you'll find several video's taken of the Tapout by Michele Guieu, one of this year's San Diego Art Prize emerging artist nominees. Finally, keep an eye out for Art Tapout events coming soon to a gallery near you!

Comments
Sorry, it took me so long to find the time to look at all of these videos. Thanks to Kevin for his comments, David for supplying the space and Michele for recording it. And of course for the brave artists for standing up and center with thier arts. Although it is obviously best to be there, I was not able to attend. The videos are a bit difficult to see and hear, but I just brought my own imagination to fill in the blanks. Many good points were raised and I am particularly interested in Zac Monday and the whole idea of identity and disguise. Probably because I am so involved with the Movers and Shakers portait show which deals with projection of the id, ego and super ego in various guises. I am intrigued by the challenges that Zak seems to be constructing with his sculptures. I was sorry not to see them with a person inside. I could not find a website for Agitprop or a website for Zac Monday. If they have them perhaps you could let me know what they are. Better still, they could list on SDVAN so everyone could find them.
