Richard, I remember an article on this in the NYT, but it wasn't playing outside of NY at the time. Have you seen it, or know how it is available?

I saw it at Hillcrest Cinemas back in August '08.
As documentaries go, Man On Wire's a full-fledged artwork — though not made by him, it's from the Errol Morris school of deep subtext, in this case about art and society.
It's available for rent from Netflix and iTunes.
